Windows 7

As of January 14, 2020, Windows 7 is no longer supported by Windward Software or Microsoft. This document has been left for archival purposes.

Windows 7, Microsoft's latest version of the Windows operating system, was released in October 2009. Windows 7 replaces Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000, and other Windows operating systems.

Some software was designed to work with the older versions of the Windows operating systems and may have problems working properly under Windows 7.

Please check compatibility with any mission critical software and hardware. Be informed before upgrading or purchasing new pc's or notebooks with Windows 7 already installed.

System Five Version Requirements for Windows 7

Customers using Windows 7 need to be running the latest version of System Five or the minimum required version which is 5.42.0.148.

To check the System Five version you are running: from within System Five, click on Help from the top menu bar and then click About. The Program Version will be displayed to the right of the Windward logo in the popup window. If you are not running the minimum required version, you will need to upgrade System Five before you can use the Windows 7 operating system.

SpeedyPOS Version 6 is compatible with Windows 7.

Older versions of SpeedyPOS and SpeedyPOSPlus are not compatible with Windows 7

Known issues with 64 bit editions

Nov 2009: 64 bit operating systems have known issues with some OPOS devices that are NOT currently compatible. Check to ensure that your hardware peripheral devices are compatible with Windows 7 BEFORE you upgrade or purchase Windows 7
  • System Five registry information is stored in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Windward This registry location is used for 32bit applications running on a 64 bit OS.

Pervasive Database V10 Required

The Pervasive.SQL database version 10 is required for Windows 7. Contact your Windward account manager if you are an existing customer and you are planning on upgrading to Windows 7 or if you plan on purchasing stations running the Windows 7 operating system.

Mapped network drives are not available when System Five is run as administrator

If you right click on the System Five icon and select run as Adminstrator in order to link a new company, the mapped network drives will not be available. This is due to the fact that the administrator account is different than the account you linked the network drives as. There is a Windows registry setting that will fix this.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System\EnableLinkedConnections=1(DWORD)
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937624

You may need to reboot after configuring the above registry entry.

System Five E-Mail and Windows 7

There have been issues with MAPI (Mail Application Programming Interface) being supported with Outlook or Windows Mail on Windows 7. This prevents System Five from sending emails through your email program. To work around this issue you can still email directly from System Five if you have a POP3 account. For further assistance please contact technical support as sending mail via MAPI is supported by System Five.
